It's no secret Silent Hill reigned the world of Horror for more than a decade, bringing into the industry a type of Horror the world had never seen before and thus became the most critically acclaimed and fan loving series in the history of survival Horror and general Media.
Sadly, Team Silent; the creators of the Silent Hill series, parted ways after Silent Hill 4: The Room was released to work on separate titles not related to the series and thus began the downfall of the king.
Konami gave the rights of the series to multiple, non-Japanese developers, who shamelessly turned the series into Saw clones, turning away from the more phycological horror which the series became known for, into a more blood and gore type of experience with little to no depth.

I've never played any of these games. I know they **** hard and they're one of the best games ever but it's just too scary for me. I got Alan Wake last Christmas and I'm still not finished with it, it's too damn scary. And I know Alan Wake is nothing compared to Silent Hill and that's why I just cannot play Silent Hill. However the new Silent Hill that's coming out this year looks really good and cool. Still to scary tho.

Alan Wake is fun and laughs compared to Silent Hill.
Silent Hill can be traumatizing at times, that's one of the things that make it so interesting.

But Dead Space 1 & 2 >>>> Silent Hill (Scary wise). In Dead Space things jump out at you out of vents. And there are some scenes where it's almost pitch black and you don't know what is going to jump out.

In that case, I DARE YOU to try playing Silent Hill 2 or 3 at night and alone.
It's a lot scarier with surround sound and a good big HDTV with the lights off. I have a 5.1 HD Surround System and when I play this game, things crash all around you, it's creepy. So if the speakers are behind you (mine are ear level to where I sit) and you hear the sound of 'something' knocking a garbage can over, it might come from behind you and it's creepy

Ok PLEASE go to the 11:10 mark of this video. When i bought Dead Space 2, this part FREAKED me out so much. Don't watch the beginning cause it might ruin / spoil the opening for you, so go immeadiately to 11:10.
Tell me if that's not scary. Turn the lights off. Make it full screen if you can and turn the sound up. (I had my 5.1 SS cranked) and tell me if you don't jump when..........something turns on.

The game is only scary when you actually play it, not just watch it. It's the scary feeling that you are in control of the player and not knowing what wrong step will bring you. Plus a HDTV with SS makes it scarier too.
Oh and we should never forget how epic Silent Hill music is.

I wouldn't know, but sure you can download them from internet for PC, you will be able to run it no problem.
I think I've heard something like this on Silent Hill in the last 3 games combined. But yeah it's scary. I think they just recycle the same music over and over.
Have you even played the first 4? Those are the real deal.
Homecoming tried so hard to scare you it was actually funny and SM was a re-imagining of the first Silent Hill with NO combat.
