For me it can't. Even if it's something that's seemingly minor, I just see it as a small preview of what's to come. Trust is a very precarious thing for me, and I don't ever break it when someone makes the effort to invest it in me. Therefore if a person can't respect that enough to not violate my trust, I stop wasting my time with them.

My cousin, who I hang out with everyday, lies a lot and I always know when he's lying because of my memory. He'll say one thing and completely forget what he said a few days, months, even years ago so I always pick up on his lies. It's not that I don't trust him, I just have a hard time believing the things that leave his lips. I rarely call him out on his lies, but when I do he'll have another lie already in place. Maybe I don't trust him if I can't believe him....

Ex: He used to work at Boscov's and for a year straight insisted that he was on temporary leave because Boscov's was hardly getting any business. Ok sis, whatever.

It could be about a movie that just came out. When Scream 4 was in theaters he swore up and down he saw and said it was great. Black Friday comes, "Oh, I might as well get Scream 4. I haven't seen it yet."
