The Prince of Pop tops most popular baby names list

Jayden, pictured here at right with mom Britney Spears, has a popular name. Some 800 newborns in New York alone were named Jayden based on 2010 birth certificates from city hospitals.
For the second straight year, Jayden tops the list of most popular names for newborns.
The runners-up was Ethan, while Daniel came in third.
Valerie Palmore, 52, of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, said the top names were nice,
“I know a couple people whose child is named Jayden,” said Palmore. “They’re nice names, mellow. You can still be an adult and be called either of those names easily.”
Biblical figures remained a big source of inspiration as Daniel, Joshua, David, Matthew, Leah, Sarah and Esther all made the top 10 for boys and girls. Joseph and Jacob returned to the favorites after a two-year absence.
Michael took the biggest tumble in the ranking, falling from fourth to seventh place. But Richard Xavier, 37, had no regrets naming his 5-month-old son that.
“It was one of my uncles’ names. He was really close to me,” said Xavier, of Elmhurst, Queens.
Queens warehouse worker Young Kim, 33, said he christened his 19-month-old son, James, not caring that the name ranked No. 18.
“I go to church and my Bible teacher’s name is James,” Kim explained. “I wanted my son to be like him.”
