In high school, all the teachers that mentioned it were anti-discrimination.

In college, it's a mixed bag. Some are for gay rights and others throw subtle shade and disrespect.

Many students don't have the accurate knowledge to comprehend a topic like this, so they just laugh or keep it moving. Especially with me in the class, I will debate to the end if you're offensive or disrespectful.

Students bring it up all the time, but most of the times the teachers lecture them on how it's alright to be gay and that you shouldn't care about what others do, care about yourself etc...

But one time this old, fat substitute in English used the word gay in the "happy" definition, and the whole class started giggling and ****, and then the fat **** ranted about how the "*****" ruined a perfectly good word and that now he gets judged when he says it. I was so mad.

I had a couple teachers bring it up, but it wasn't awkward. It fit with what we were talking about.

There's no statement in the original text that says anything about sharing stories.

For some reason in 10th grade, my American history teacher said something about homosexuals being an abomination in reference to the Bible. I can't quite remember the context though. I think he was relating it to something from the Civil War I think maybe he was saying that slavery is an abomination, like homosexuality. I can't quite remember though. It was very awkward for me.
