Every artist rides on the success of previous singles/albums at one point or another, but it doesn't mean they don't deserve it

Every artist rides on the success of previous singles/albums at one point or another, but it doesn't mean they don't deserve it

That's not what I'm saying, I'm referring to the fact that the song's success is purely based on being catchy and radio friendly. There was barely any effort to promote her music other than last minute remixes, so in that sense, she "rode off them being catchy".

Yeah I know, but my comment was regarding the thread's title of whether Katy deserved the success that she got this era, and I said that she didn't because she just puts out these messy remixes w/the likes of Missy + B.O.B to get extra spins on different radio formats that wouldn't have normally played a pop song.

i know, E.T. deserved #1 cause its original and remix held #1 and #2 on itunes and it would have been #1 will original sales alone and airplay, last friday night deserved #1 because it was at #1 on airplay and digital sales but the two peaked far away from eachother and it was stuck at #2 for mutilpe weeks so all in all it deserved its #1. the only one single that looks tacky is TOTGA because its been discounted for such a long time and its remix, however its doing great on airplay!

The question is, is all this success deserved, or is it mainly because of her label / producers / radio ect.

True, but the first four were nothing more than pure radio friendly, glittery dance numbers. Their success came from being "catchy" and not much more.

The question was whether or not her success is "deserved", in my opinion it's not.
