All I'm saying is that Rihanna is the face of this product line for more reasons than just good looks and attitude, and her early life is probably the underlying reason as to why. Call that reaching if you want, but I'm not trying to discredit Rihanna at all. I'm just bringing up a valid point.

Not really. Do you actually know Rihanna grew up in "poverty"? I'm assuming not because you just made the connection in your first post because of her being Bajan. Obviously you don't actually have contextual knowledge about her childhood
Barbados isn't a rich country like the US, but nobody sees Rihanna and thinks "poor". They do not make the connection that UNICEF is more suited to her than, say, Beyonce.
Someone like Paris Hilton would obviously be a bad image because everyone associates her with money. People do not associate Rihanna with a "rags-to-riches" background, however, so its irrelevant. She may not have been rolling in money but she has never presented herself with having had a hard life.
