Quoting something in a good way is a great feature. A line may sound good but when you realize it refers to a piece of art it widens the horizon of meaning.
So, quoting someone doesnt make you nessecarily smarter but it's a nice feature.
Don't be naive STMG23. She made it simple by quoting Nabokov's Lolita. It is just another trick to reinforce her character. If she had quoted something less obvious then I would be impressed.
