Discussion: Do you feel it's necessary for you to get married?

Would you like to settle down with someone one day and spend the rest of your life with them? gay marriage may not be legalized in all states but were slowly but surely getting there, hopefully one day everyone will be allowed to marry who they want regardless if it's the same sex.

I think marriage is a beautiful thing...when it's other people getting married, I personally would never do it. I just don't like the idea of being legally bound to someone. And most marriages end in divorce. Granted marriage has it's benefits but I just can't picture myself going through the ceremony. I think some couples can still live life together like a married couple without actually walking down the aisle. I can see myself being with a girl I love for the rest of my life, but I would let her know in the beginning of the relationship that a marriage is simply out of the question, even if we have kids. Most women wouldn't stand for just being a "baby mama" without a ring but at least I would let her know upfront, whether she decides to continue the relationship is up to her.

No. I actually don't believe in it. My parents marriage sucks, and I'd love to be able to be in a relationship were trust and love are the most important things, not a piece of paper.

this may sound all lame and mushy, but i used to hate marriage as well - until i found the love of my life <3. once you find that someone you have deep feelings for and whatnot, you'll want other people to know they're someone else's forever (or at least for the time being, depending how in love you are). you'd also want to do anything to make them happy if you're truly in lovee.

As of now, I don't see myself married.

Mainly because my attitude and character, I mean, I can't even have a girlfriend because I'd dump her. I would get tired, and i don't really want to hurt anybody's feelings.

I would like to have a family, though. Even if it's only me and my adopted children.

So I think the idea of marriage, if done right, is beautiful. Though it's a social invention to prevent males from straying off and impregnating everything in their sight, I think it's good. I like the idea of going through life with someone as a partner.
But this is also possible without the legally binding word that is marriage.

EDIT: I think the legally binding of marriage sort of solidifies that you two are ****ing in LOVE. Whereas with a partnership, (what an awful word for a relationship) you COULD just step out and never look back with little to no repercussions. Nobody wanna be dating someone for 10+ years just to have them step out. However, if you're married for 10 years and that person steps out, take half they coin, girl.

Marriage just seems to complicate things. I have a few older friends/co-workers who are still dealing with the aftermath of a failed marriage, and it just seems like unneeded stress. I mean, I would like to spend the rest of my life with just one person but you honestly can't predict how things will pan out in the future. In the case that something does happen to cause the relationship to break, I would like to just cut it simply instead of having to deal with months and months (and in a few cases, YEARS) of legal proceedings just to unbind myself to this person.

I don't need a damn paper to tell the person I'm with + everyone we both know to show how much we love each other or are committed to one another - it should already be obvious.

Maybe, one day. Right now, I don't have any plans to be married.

i agree. i hate the idea of marriage but if i find the right guy i would probably do it if he wanted to and i felt it could last.

It depends, If I REALLY love her and she feels the same way about me then yes. But, if that feeling is not there then no. That is the problem. People nowadays are so quick to get married because they THINK they are in love but really they only feeling them for the moment and once they are married they regret it and want a divorce. You have to make sure you truly want to be with him or her for the rest of your life.

Marriage seems kinda pointless to me. If I'm in love, then I'm in love. I don't need any document telling me so. But if others want it, I won't judge.

Marriage is sweet in the beginning, but sometimes turns out to be stressful.
I still love to be married though. Such a beautiful thing. I want a happy little family when I grow up.

If I'm in love with a girl and the feelings are reciprocated, I don't see the need for a piece of paper to tell us we're in love. Plus the thousands of dollars usually spent on weddings, just seems pointless especially if the marriage doesn't last. I will say, however, to each his own.

No. For now it is definately a no but that will probably change in 6 or 7 years.
