Labels count shipped copies as sold (since they are techically "sold" to retailers) and most times they mean them when they release official statements; publications as Billboard and IBT simply report these.

Wait. If Mediatraffic and Music Charts have confirmed BTW surpassed the 5 million mark long ago, then why the total is for you 3 million??

If the ''supposed'' total by these sites are that and they don't reach all the markets, I think it's fair for AT LEAST assume that Born This Way has effectively sold 8 million copies until now.

The point I was making is that, despite what you said, there really is no way to factually prove that Gaga hasn't sold 8 million copies WW, unless you compile sales from every country WW. So this number can't be proven either way. Who knows? She could have sold 2 million units in China, or India. She hasn't, obviously, but where is the proof?

Exactly, There are some countries that do not count sales like we do. Therefore maybe only the label would know about these sales per say. Who knows? No one can really say for sure. However we do know that the pressed come out when things are right.
