Wanting to be in control of your own vision and career is not being an egomaniac or self-indulgent. There are dozens of people who worked on each set with Gaga, so it's not like she was like, "Everyone off the damn set." If anything, the whole TEOG video debacle was so blown out of proportion. Kahn tweeted something to the effect of "my vision or no vision" and yet Gaga was labeled as the egomaniac. That doesn't make any sense now. Isn't there a good ol' saying that states, "If you want something done right, do it yourself?" And by "right", I mean what Gaga wanted in her heart.
She doesn't refuse to listen to her fans. BTW was created for her fans. The thing is, she doesn't breed negativity. She doesn't listen to the naysayers because she wholeheartedly loves what she does and believes in who she is. She was happy with the TEOG video and no one was gonna make her feel otherwise. That is a brave and strong-ass woman and I have no idea how you can have nothing but respect for her. What was she supposed to do, retweet "TEOG SUCKED, DIE GAGA?" No, that's not how she rolls.
I guess this is what she meant when she talked about this era testing her fans. Those who are here for her are happy and those who are here for her success aren't (not saying you're the latter :P).
P.S. "First of all, you're ugly. I hate you. TEOG sucked. You're flopping" is not constructive criticism.
P.P.S. I'm sure she gets thousands of tweets, so can we really expect her to be able to see any of the negative one? Her mentions are probably nothing but, "YOU'RE PERFECT, GAGA, WE LOVE YOU."

I don't think we'll ever see eye to eye on this matter but I'll respond briefly anyways for the sake of clarity.
First off, the TEOG video isn't worth discussing since neither of us were there and we only have the guidance of a few painfully ambiguous tweets by which to create a whole episode--not worth it.
What I do want to say though is, Gaga knows the reception to the video was poor. Some clarification as to why the best song has such a lackluster video would have been nice. This whole "She wants to stay positive" spheal is tired, if anything it seems like she wants to breed blind devotion. I'm not here for that--delusions are not my stronghold.
If this era has proved anything, its how successful her LAST era truly was. The frontloaded sales, the chart performance of the first single etc.
She knows this era potential (not success) has been mismanaged, video after video, single after single, and yet , somehow, she is sticking to the same blueprint she designed back in May. Lady Gaga has a great deal of talent and creativity, and it is one of the reasons I am still around and respect her, but what is more respectable is someone who knows they have reached the limit of things they can do on their own and allow the help of others.
