I don't quite understand. The first time people did rap remixes was in the 1980's, and "everybody started doing it" in the early 90's...

But I agree, that maybe an acoustic version would've been a better idea. There's nothing wrong with rap remixes at all, but I just don't think rapping works well with this particular song. Rapping worked great on E.T., because its instrumental was a ready-made hip hop beat. This instrumental is a club beat.
