They're back! After a five year hiatus The Shins will return in 2012 with their fourth studio album, Port Of Morrow. For all you youngin's, here's a little refresher course on one of the greatest American bands of the 21st century...
Here's what we know so far:
James Mercer wrote all the lyrics and performed most of the music on the album. Greg Kurstin (Lily Allen, the Bird and the Bee) produced the record.
And here's the tracklist:
01 The Rifle's Spiral
02 Simple Song
03 It's Only Life
04 No Way Down
05 September
06 Bait and Switch
07 Fall of '82
08 For a Fool
09 40 Mark Strasse
10 Port of Morrow
It should be out sometime in March. Full details to come!
So glad to see another Shins fan on ATRL. Were they really on hiatus? Because I went to a show last year.
Yeah when James performed as Broken Bells with Danger Mouse the band were on hiatus. In fact, The Shins' old drummer has been replaced by the drummer for Modest Mouse. They've been playing new songs since last year, all of which sound amazing!
I'm SO excited for this!! The Shins have truly soundtracked my life over the past six years or so; their songs contain a dose of nostalgia that is present on the very first listen and is subsequently sticks with you long after you hear it. They never fail to bring the goods! Can't wait for March!
I love The Shins. Phantom Limb is one of my favorite songs of all time. I didn't know they were working on a new album. So what's the first single then?

No info on that yet! I'm sure in January we should be getting a single/video. They've been playing some new songs at some of their shows, I'll get on YouTube and post some of them here.
