- Most big songs for the year (Crazy In Love, Hollaback Girl, Don't Cha, etc), come out in the summer.
I could see it being a new artist.

actually they come out in the spring and become Big in the summer

La Tortura did was REALLY BIG in the states....the song wasn't even released to english stations and they were still playing it....*hint*z100*hint* even now.
and still it peaked at #22 i think in the Billboard! when it wasnt even released, did pretty well in my opinion.

Bad Day, You're Beautiful, Check On It, Be Without You, have done or will do notably well.

Everyone's gonna be over S.O.S. before the summer. I like Hips Don't Lie, but I don't think it could be that huge in the US. I vote for whatever Pink puts out and maybe Say Something by Mariah-but her songs peak too fast.
If Kelly Clarkson would release Gone-then there would be a hit.

Yeah the song did great for a Latin song, but it wasn't huge.... I wouldn't call it a summer anthem
For this summer, it's too hard to know actually, too many big names releasing cd's this summer.

I define a summer anthem as a song that has a wicked beat, its a fun dance track and has everyone singing out loud. We Belong Together, Since U Been Gone, Hollaback Girl, and La Tortura.. I don't know about you guys but everyone I know was singing La Tortura and even trying the moves... Hips Dont Lie and SOS are almost there

I'm gonna say if Rihanna & Sean Paul's Break It Off becomes a single, that will be HUGE. It also could be a song not even out yet but coming in the next couple weeks (maybe the next single from Aly & A.J? )

If Pink releases U & Ur Hand and Long Way To Happy she will have two huge 2006 singles on her hands, also I think Hips Don't Lie is going to last awhile: 2nd week on billboard hot 100 and it's already #60... Nelly Furtado "Promiscuous Girl" too, hopefully "Maneater" will be 2nd single, that song would be a huge hit for the year.... I'm hoping Red Hot Chili Peppers new single Dani California will be a huge comback for them and that it'll be as big as their singles from Californication, i don't really know what else right now....

possibly Temperature but the biggest hit of the year is yet to come (def. not Shakira, Aguilera, and it pains me to say, Furtado).

a hit doesn't really have to perform well on the charts... La Tortura didn't reach the top but it was STILL a hit. I hear people constantly singing Control Myself.. and stfu, so what if you don't like the song.. That's kind of rude

out of those choices, "Hips Don't Lie" has the better chance. Rihanna has an annoying voice with her latest release, LL Cool J's song is good but that's more of a winter/spring single, 'Temperature' will die by the end of April. So right now Shakira got it good.
But....I think that Nelly Furtardo will be big with "PG". It's so hot and refreshing. You can easily sing along, dance, and rap to it. I haven't heard "Maneater" yet so nothing on that. But her single isn't out until May 1, and will be ready to hit up the BB by June!!!!!!!!!!!

Some of you are quite impatient lol.
Rihanna - SOS (Rescue Me) - This will done by May, Summer begins in June.
Shakira - Hips Don't Lie - This could possibly reach its peak in early summer, I consider this a contender.
LL Cool J feat/ JLo - Control Myself - This is done already.
Sean Paul - Temperature - Already reached its peak
Oh and Since U Been Gone was not a summer anthem last year.
Usually, summer hits go for adds between late March all the way till June. Potential Summer hits are the following:
Nelly Furtado f/ Timbaland - Promiscuous
Mariah Carey f/ Snoop Dogg - Say Somethin'
Ne-yo - When You're Mad (or w/e he releases after that)
Natasha Bedingfield - Single (NEW U.S. Radio Edit is hot)
Pussycat Dolls - Buttons Remix f/ Snoop Dogg
Field Mob f/ Ciara - So What
Christina Aguilera - Ain't No Other Man
...and...
Debut singles which could also be potential summer hits:
Cassie - Me & U (the female counterpart to Chris Brown's Run It, and yes, she's untalented!)
Mario Vazquez - Gallery
Jeannie Ortega f/ Papoose - Crowded
...and a few others, I predict.
I also see more crossover hits from A/C radio becoming big hits.

Um, the two biggest hits of the summer will obviously be Push the Button and Biology. If you Americans would give them the chance.
LFR Cassie? Brian, I love you. Do you agree with me that Be Mine and Handle Me could become huge successes in this country?

I think it's kinda soon to tell, April's just beggining. I hope this summer will be as good in music as it was in 2005.

Hey Bart, I'm not happy about Cassie having a hit. The song shows barely any signs of vocal talent and it's lyrics are something a prostitute could live by. But the song's run reminds me of "Run It". Like "Run It", it's slowly picking up on Urban radio and it has beat which fits in well with the current Hip-Hop trend.
And yes Bart, Be Mine & Handle Me could potentially be some of the biggest hits of the new millenium. But they would have to be released in the states first for that to happen. Robyn, come back!
Pertaining to the Sugas: I said it many times and I'll say it again, I think the Sugas are set on releasing something stateside soon, very soon. "Push The Button" would most likely be the introduction single. I also think PTB could blow up big time. After all, look how well it did internationally last year. How can it not be a hit?

And seriously, they could always follow Natasha's lead!
These Words -> PTB
Unwritten -> Ugly (Plus, it has the feel of Unpretty) [LFR, all of these songs begin with U! I just noticed that!]
Single - Follow Me Home
I mean, this all writes itself out.
And then they could be nominated for Best new Artist and beat the likes of Blunt and that hideous, hideous hideous man.

I highly doubt "Ain't No Other Man" will be a summer hit.... I'm really starting to think this Christina effort won't do so hot....
