Cyndi Lauper And Madonna To Team Up This Year?

Cyndi Lauper tells Neil Sean of Sky News she's hoping
to team up with Madonna on a project soon. "I've been
given the chance in the past to write with her but, as
yet, it's never come off," she said. "We're both
admirers of each other's work and she wants to get
together so this is going to be the year."

If it wasn't for Cindy Lauper, Madonna wouldn't be here. Cindy started the pop/punk revolution with her first album but she went away 'cause her second album flopped (too much ballads) and Madonna picked up where Cindy left off.

Ya, Cindy really was the most original when both came out. It's pretty well known that Madonna stole some of Cindy's style etc at the time. But as we all know Madonna proved herself after that where Cindy didn't really seem to want to do the pop music thing anymore.

The media actually portrayed Cyndi and Madonna as rivals for a short period of time but they really weren't.

And Virgin *****, "True Colors" didn't flop. It went 2x Platinum, though that is 1/3 of what "She's So Unusual" (the greatest pop album by a female) sold. One of the main reasons Cyndi's popularity diminished was because she ended up becomg what-his-name's manager on the WWF. The WWF was considered extremely corny at that time. People began to feel that Cyndi was far too spontaneous/random.

Dave, there was no stealing of any sort so how well known could that bit of information be known? Madonna dressed the way she did since '82 (or maybe longer), before her record deal and before Cyndi Lauper released anything at all (minus her work with Blue Angel).

Well Cyndi is quoted pretty famously with the "it's feels like she's stealing my idenity" bit. I've heard that around quite a few times in the last few years and was part of that competition the media played up. Meh, I've just read quite a few articles that talks about Madonna's pop culture synthisis by taking stuff and making it her own and they often mention Cyndi's style. Up for debate obviously.
