I'll definitely keep an eye on your countdown, Red. Your taste is more varied than most of the posters here so it will be interesting to see something different.
Are you not doing any movies?

Honestly, it's not looking like it, no. I might do a special review of my #1 movie, but I just haven't seen enough movies to definitively decide upon my favorite movies of the year at the moment.
Thank you all for the comments so far, especially about the banner, because, as we all know, Athens is a graphics god. I hope to have the first part of the first list up within the next hour!

YECA Countdown #1: Top 20 Music Videos (20-16)
Originally, this was not set to be the first countdown of the 2011 Year-End Crazy Ambition. I barely even had enough videos to get to ten, let alone twenty. After a long binge of video watching, however, I was finally able to get this list up to twenty, a list larger than any music videos list since way back in 2006. As such, the list that kicked off last year's YECA will also be the list that kicks off THIS year's YECA! Hey, if nothing else, I'm a total sucker for tradition.
| Adele
Rolling in the Deep
It's kind of fitting that we kick off my year-end festivities and a look at my favorite music videos of 2011 with the year's most successful artist. Adele, without a doubt, has been EVERYWHERE in 2011. Two #1 hits (and a third is on the way), a huge-selling #1 album all over the world, Grammy nominations...and it all started with a woman sitting in a chair in a blank room while dishes break and a ninja dances. Out of all of the videos on this list, it has to be one of the most iconic, and it's certainly going to be one of the first that everyone remembers in 2011. |
| Bjork
Crystalline
Michel Gondry, how I love thee. You have mastered the art of the music video, and "Crystalline" is your latest masterwork. I can't, in good conscience, place this much higher than #19, though, because of one key reason: As good and as enjoyable as the effects are in this video, it's really just effects and Bjork being...well...Bjork. Entertaining enough to place in the top twenty? Absolutely. But it's not good enough for much higher than that. Not this year. |
| The Joy Formidable
Whirring
*sigh* Oh, Ritzy Bryan. It was when I discovered the video for "Whirring" that I came across your lovely face for the first time. Your beauty shines through so easily even in a land of pretty faces. Hell, it shines through this Alice in Wonderland-like trip through a house of bizarre images and cats who shoot lazers out of their eyeballs. I was won over by The Joy Formidable the moment that I came across this epic tune, but it was this music video and its (dare I say it) unique visual look that helped to make me a fan. Well, and the gorgeous Ritzy Bryan, of course. |
| Death Cab For Cutie
You Are A Tourist
I believe that this will be a placement that I will not look back on fondly. No, it's not because I don't believe that this video should be on the list. It absolutely should. The problem that I'm facing with this video that was shot live in one take on YouTube is that I may be placing it a WEE bit too low. Even if you don't remember watching the video live as it was being shot, it's still a wonder to see how everything comes together so naturally in one take.

| Lady Gaga
Born This Way
This video, the "manifesto of Mother Monster", is Lady Gaga at her Gaga-y best. Like with "Rolling in the Deep", this will be one of the very first videos that comes to mind when people think of the year 2011, but it goes beyond just being iconic. The visuals are just astounding: Gaga giving birth to a large machine gun, Gaga riding off into the sunset on a unicorn, the simple yet entrancing dance sequences, every time Gaga appears as Skeleton Gaga...and those are just some of the engaging visuals. Oh, and using Bernard Herrmann's prelude to Vertigo as the prelude to BTW was a stroke of genius. |

15-11 should be posted today, or, at the very latest, tonight. That installment will feature a 2011 breakout artist getting beaten up, a cute girl walking around a big city, a mini-horror film, and not one, but TWO videos about a love that doesn't last. Have fun guessing which videos are coming up.

Ryan! Great to see the return of the Crazy Ambition! Your list is always really terrific, and I look forward to what you have coming up.
Which starts right now, with this really nice music videos set! I agree with you on the Death Cab video, as it was really quite impressive. You also can't deny those Gaga and Adele videos. Plus: Gondry!!! I will certainly check out that Joy Formidable video, as it sounds like good fun for all.
Bring on the next music videos set!

For some reason, I can't see the full explanations of your music videos though... It's cut off...
Maybe it's just my computer

It probably has to do with either your screen resolution or the size of your screen itself, if I had to guess, though it could be a number of things. I find that, on my screen, the words don't even reach the right side of the post window. If it makes you feel any better, Foxay's entries so far are doing the exact same thing for me.
