Update: Thank you to ЯŚR (post #9) for Katy's clips & Robyn's performances to watch in the meantime before NBC posts the episode in full.
My review:
- Most of the skits were awful, which should come as a surprise to no one, seeing as their writing team is awful and the only time episodes are solid is when they actually bring in temporary writers like they did with Betty White.
- The Queen's scene with Katy as Pippa, the Finnish TV show with clips and the very last scene with the lounge elevator were decent...as was Weekend Update, but mostly because of Alec's impersonation of the pilot of the plane he got kicked off of. Unfortunately, Stefon's usually tired/stereotyped segment that followed it predictably sucked, killing the momentum.
- Katy provided a DEAD-ON Florence impression in one scene and an Xtina impression as parody (disguising obvious shade) in another.
- You can clearly tell Robyn knew this appearance counted as she had a fire in her eyes for both performances I haven't seen in almost her entire career. Dancing on My Own was solid, but she quite simply SLAYED Call Your Girlfriend. Whether this actually translates to chart impressions can be debated, but I can't see her quirky vibe (which I personally love) translating to the aesthetic that say, Katy Perry's fan-base clicks with.
For starters, on the Xtina impression, she donned basically a hammed up version of the catastrophe worn for the "Moves Like Jagger" AMA's appearance, wig included.
By disguising obvious shade for X you meant the lil extra weight thing. Well X probably still weighs less than Katy so of course they wouldn't go there.

Actually the weight wasn't what I first thought of but the infamous superfluous melismas.
You know an ICON, when you see people trying to impersonate you. Nice try Katy! You're a great girl. Lovelovelove from Queen Xtina. You will be blessed for taking notice of the ONE and ONLY, stealing the show (AMA) [don't care if good or bad] with her 30 secs stint! That's how you do it BITCHES!
I actually loved it. The opening skit was horrible though. The woman that had a clip for everything had me dying. As well as the flirty girl in Weekend Update. Kristen Wig is amazing.
