I don't think I know any autistic people, but I went on a trip to Haiti with my aunt this summer. Her girlfriend (she's lesbian) is a special-ed teacher and she is a psychiatrist. They go around the world trying to introduce mental health issues to poor countries that can't afford to worry about such things as mental conditions. They were giving seminars on things like autism in Port-au-Prince and she told me a lot about it when we were eating.
My little cousin is autistic, he has certain issues with eating food and his dad believes Autism isn't real and that his ex wife(my cousins mom) is making it up to make him look bad.
He is VERY smart though. He is 3 years old and can name every single dinosaur there ever was and knows what they look like, there habitats, and what they would eat.
My boyfriends brother has aspergers. He says very strage stuff sometimes, and can be hard to deal with but once you get to know him he's very sweet. He is incredibly intelligent ! He's only 16 and he knows more math than I have ever learned in my life
I have Asperger's and its a milder form of Autism. Aspergers is a socialising and communication disorder. ADD and ADHD is closely associated with Aspergers.
But I have boarderline Aspergers and its hardly noticeable. I was a lot worse when I was in high school but as I got older, I've gotten better.
My parents never thought of it as a disability, but my Mom has done so much for me to have a good life, and unlike many Aspies, I've become really successful.
Junior High sucked ass because I was in a Special Ed program with other Asperger kids who didn't like me for my personality. 7th Grade was torture because I too afraid to go where the mainstream kids were, but 8th Grade I started breaking away and I started going to dances, talking to some of my mainstream friends, and mainstreaming 4 of my 6 classes.
High School was much better because I didn't go to the school where they had the same special ed program, but for High School kids. Because of that, I was able to let my personality grow and I've been able to let all my friendships grow, and I've become extremely outgoing. I've gone to almost every school dance, I started going to parties, I've gone to many football and basketball games, as well as plays and Choir Shows, and it's really paid off.
I was on my school's Homecoming Court and a lot of people said I should have won, but I lost to a nobody
In addition, I was in my school's Mixed Choir and I won an award for Most Improved. I'm gonna try and get back in for my final semester of High School.
I'm really glad that, for a kid with Aspergers, I've been able to do so many things already and enjoy my social life.
Me and my mom are currently looking at stuff for Community College, and I also am working in her home office, and I've already made nearly $300 in there. My 18th Birthday is next month and I'm throwing a huge costume party and I can't wait.
Every person has a chance to make something out of themselves, and being Mildly Autistic means I can do much more.
I can't wait to live the rest of my life and find the right guy!
I did a lot of reading on autism last year, specifically aspergers and more specifically savant syndrome.
This subject matter is extremely engaging and fascinating. I will recommend two books for people wanting to explore more. One book is about the author's life experience living with aspergers and savant syndrome, and the other is more about the scientific background of aspergers.

I went to see a therapist about anxiety. After going to see her she said i might have aspergers because of my "obsession" with Gaga (my mums words) & my anxiety. I got assessed by two therapists and they both agreed that i have chronic anxiety syndrome not aspergers.
(I have always been bad with people but i think i'm just an introvert)
