SNSD and SJ are girlband/boybands with large obsessive fan base.
Non boybands/girlbands singers like Wheesung, IU, PSY, Supreme Team, Hot Potata etc...did poorly in the physical album markets because they don't have a large obsessive fan base.
80% or more of the Top 100 Albums from South Korea are from boy bands or girl bands. Nobody buy physical albums in South Korea anymore EXCEPT for hardcore fans. The general population buys digital if they like the songs.
