It's that time of the year again! You've been listening to music all year long, and it's time to look back and digest what you've heard. Did you hear lots of fresh new music? Is it any of it memorable? Did you find a new fave?

At the wonderful suggestion of Red, this is a place where people can tease their ATRL Best of 2011 Album lists from the Best Of forum and send them to me in a PM to be included in a list that will ideally be representative of the site as a whole.

Sometime before New Year's, I'll post a complete description of the scoring system, and sometime after New Year's, I'll post the rankings based on users who submitted their Best Of list to me using that scoring system.

You must send your personal Top 10 list to me in a PM in order for it to be counted in the final tabulation. Feel free to post it here if you wish.

The cutoff for submissions is January 20, 2012.

Honestly, though it's more time-consuming, you'd probably be better off waiting until people post their album lists in the Best of forum and looking through the threads to find top 10 rankings that way. Well, either that or asking people to send their top ten albums to you via PM, as Bart/Ace does when he compiles the ATRL Top 50 every year. Actually, that would be a much better idea.

Besides, there are some people that won't post their lists simply because they don't want to spoil any surprises, myself included.

I don't know about that. If it's treated as if it's the OFFICIAL ATRL Top Albums list, then you shouldn't have a problem getting responses.

That's fine, but I also have a question that could help you with your thread title: How large do you plan on the actual list being? I say this because we could then title your thread something along the lines of "The ATRL Top __ Albums of 2011", which would make it sound official as it is...though you could always add (OFFICIAL) at the end, if you wish.

As for the number of albums on the compiled list, I would say that it should be at least 20, if not more. Of course, this could be very much dependent on how many PMs you receive, but, if you don't get EVERYONE who does an albums list to PM you, you can always look up the threads of those who did albums lists and use their top 10 to compile your list. The only problem with doing THAT is that some people (*cough*TC*cough*) wait until the end of the Best of period to post the end of their albums lists, but I could try to get those people to send their top tens in early, as well. The key word being "try".

I would love to rank between 25 and 50 albums on the final list. I'm open to suggestions.

Well, it really depends on how many people PM you or do album lists in the Best of forum. A top 50 would probably be too many, but I'm thinking that a top 30 or even perhaps a top 40 is reasonable.

As far as the second thing is concerned, ten's probably a good stopping point when it comes to albums, as asking for any more is probably pushing it.

I think 40 is a better-looking number than 30, so hopefully I'll get enough of a response!

Even though I think ATRL has a wider scope than you may think, this still does concerns me, hence why I recommended 30. We'll see, though.

I think 40 albums are enough. For my Best of 2011 I have top 40 albums and it's enough for me.

Rankings from left to right. I didn't listen to a whole lot of 2011 albums, and many of them weren't good, so the last two are a "best of the worst" situation
