So it's 5 years (yes, 5!) since the release of Ciara's sophomore album, 'The Evolution', so let's all take a minute to appreciate this masterpiece.
The Evolution was released on December 5th 2006, and went on to debut at #1 on the Billboard Hot 200 (and #1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart), selling 338,000 copies in its first week. It was certified platinum by the RIAA within five weeks of its release. The album also received generally favourable reviews by critics. The Evolution earned Ciara an award for World's Best Selling Female R&B Artist at the 2007 World Music Awards.
The first release from the album was "Get Up (featuring Chamillionaire)", which was the lead single from the soundtrack to the film, Step Up. It was a critical and commercial success, receiving positive reviews, and peaking at #7 on the Hot 100 (already her 7th top 10), #7 on the Hot 100 Airplay, #10 on the R&B/Hip-Hop songs (also her 7th top 10 on this chart), and #13 on the Pop 100. It has been certified Gold by the RIAA. Elsewhere, it reached the top 5 in New Zealand, and top 20 in Switzerland.
Promise was the official lead single from The Evolution. It also received positive reviews from critics, and peaked at #11 on the Hot 100, and #1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop songs (her 3rd #1 on this chart). Promise has been certified Platinum by the RIAA. It was also nominated for the Viewer's Choice award at the 2007 BET awards.
(try and tell me Ciara can't sing )
Like A Boy was the third release from the album. It was well received by critics, being described as "intoxicating", with an "epic instrumental" and "gymnastic style vocals". It peaked at #19 on the Hot 100, and #6 on the R&B/Hip-Hop songs (her 9th top 10), and has been certified Gold by the RIAA. It was nominated for Video of the Year at the 2007 BET awards, and for Best Choreography in a music video at the 2007 VMAs. Internationally, Like A Boy made the top 10 in Belgium, Finland & Sweden, and the top 20 in Ireland (#11), UK (#16), Switzerland & France.
The fourth release from this era was Can't Leave 'Em Alone, which featured 50 cent. The song was moderately successful, reaching #40 on the Hot 100, #24 on the Hot 100 Airplay, and landed Ciara her tenth top 10 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Can't Leave 'Em Alone has been certified Gold by the RIAA. The song did well in New Zealand, peaking at #4. It also reached #25 on the UK R&B chart.
A music video was also released for the song That's Right, although it was never an official single.
Man, I love this album. I still to this day wished "My Love" and "Make It Last Forever" became singles. And "Bang It Up" and "Get Up" remain my two favorite songs from this album.

Yess, My Love & MILF ( at its acronym) are amazing, and I agree that they should have been singles. There are so many good songs on the album though
I'm a casual Ciara stan. The Evolution is the only Ciara album I ever bought.
Promise, Make It Last Forever, I'm Just Me, My Love, C.R.U.S.H >>>>
