SUPERSTAR Adele has had to pull out of next weekend's X Factor final — but bosses are hoping to replace her with Mariah Carey.
The Sun told how Adele hoped to make her comeback from a throat operation at next Sunday's showdown at Wembley Arena.
But her management say she will not be well enough to perform for an expected 16 million TV audience.
Bosses are now scrambling for a top act to fill her shoes.
A source said: "It was always touch and go with Adele, but we were so hoping she'd make it. She's one of the world's biggest stars.
Coldplay and Michael Bublé have already signed up.
Each act will sing a duet with an X Factor finalist.
Coldplay singer Chris Martin said: "We're all big X Factor fans so we're very excited to play on the show."
Judge Gary Barlow, who fans had hoped would sing with Take That, said: "This is the biggest final X Factor has ever done. It's going to be amazing."
"But now we're talking to Mariah and hopefully that will come off.
"If not, we're not exactly short of popular acts for fans to enjoy."
I still want Simon to demote Nicole to host and hire Mariah as a judge for US X-Factor.

Lol. She hasn't promo'd for months and last week sold 327k copies of '21' and 50k copies of '19' worldwide. She just seems to be one of those rare artists who doesn't have to be out there all the time promo'ing.
Seems there's hundreds of rumors about her being on there these past few months and I've seen nothing.
