It is not all about that. Older people see in a album a whole piece of art rather than dividing it into singles or non-singles. They respect the order of the songs because such order expresses the development of the album. The single tends to be the best part of the album, though as always - and especially post-25-year-old people - may find other songs of the album much better.
In any case, the pre-25-year-old generation is, in that sense, lazy. Now we just pick the best part of the albums (usually singles) and skip or delete the songs we don't like in our electronic devices rather than listening to the whole piece of art - the whole album.
Now, going back to the topic, I download music illegally 99.9% of the time (0.01% for the albums my parents and I bought in the 90's-early 00's). During 2006-2009 I used Limewire, but then, since 2010, I have used the Youtube to mp3 audio converter.

Depends. if i'm just curious about an artist then i get it illegally first via mediafire. if i kinda like it, i keep it. if i really love it, then i buy it legally on itunes or i buy a physical copy.
But for my faves i always get it on itunes and physically to support them

I buy around 5 albums a month, although a few months back I went on a spending spree and bought 23 CDs in one go.
If I'm unsure as to the quality of the album, I usually download the leak and if it's ok I'll just keep the leak but if I really like it I'll download the album on Amazon / iTunes or purchase the physical CD.
I always download singles illegally (unless it is by one of my favourite artists e.g. P!nk) as I don't see the point in paying 99p for a single (which will be on the album) when a month later I could buy the whole album for £8.99.

Mostly from CD's. I only pay to download songs from my faves.

I'm in China and no one buys legal music here. You can find absolutely any song on mp3-related websites. I answered your survey, but I am afraid I might have rendered it invalid since in China we can say that downloading, well, is legal.
The only CD I have bought is "Born This Way"... I had downloaded the leak, and loved it. I had to go to a Chinese sort of Ebay and buy it online, arrived after three days. It does feel awesome to have the product of your favorite artist in your hands, especially if it is good work. Furthermore, I don't rely on the music market in China; I feel that I am not buying the real product, but a pirated CD. I see a lot of "The Fame Monster: China Version" CDs
On the other hand, I love Itunes and MP3s. I would only be able to listen to CDs on CD players or on my laptop, and I love the comfortable feeling of taking my favorite music everywhere I go.

I'm 17, too and I never buy anything on iTunes. I really don't like paying for something I can't hold in my hands. Maybe that's old-fashioned, but I love holding a booklet in my hand, although I'm always pissed when it doesn't contain the lyrics.
When I'm looking for new music, I'm going to YouTube, search for the singles, am angry 'cause they aren't available in my country anymore and a few attempts later I can listen to it. If I like it, I'll listen to all the previews on Amazon. If I like most of them, I'll buy the CD.

Thanks a lot for your insight. I definitely agree that the older generation has more respect for the whole piece rather than the parts.

Thanks to everyone who gave feedback on the topic! I really appreciate it, especially if you took the time to take the survey. Remember, it is completely ANONYMOUS.
I'm meeting with my research project group later to discuss the results which I was supposed to be gathering like a week ago .

Mediafire.
If it's Britney, Ke$ha and sometimes Paramore, then I buy the CD physically.
If it's a complete CD that I really like, I buy the physical too.
If it's a song that I don't find in Mediafire, I buy it on iTunes.

There is something about holding the cd in your hands and having the art work, lyrics (hopefully), smell...

This survey just reminded me.
Did ExtraChapstick ever post the results of his survey?

It's difficult to determine where most of my music comes from.
A quarter of it is purchased on iTunes (sometimes Amazon if they're having a good deal on an album/artist I wouldn't normally pay for). I also tend to buy physical copies of any and all albums that I like (mostly mainstream albums, though). The other half of my music comes from other sources.

"Attain" music? Did you get that from a thesaurus?

I hate you. Or rather loathe, abhor, despise you.

I buy really good albums at CD stores.
For the rest... there's filestube.com or jamxclusive.net.

I just met with my marketing group so I will be posting results soon! The bad part is that we didn't get the results that we needed since we need A LOT more people who are older than 25 to take the survey D:

I buy all major CDs (Brit, Gaga, K$, Rih, Bey, Katy). However, online I only buy Britney/Rihanna stuff.
Mediafire gets me Gaga and Beyonce stuff.
