And the last part isn't fact at all. Many artists don't make it huge with their debut singles. Only a few artists have managed to have such a worldwide smash and impact with their first ever single.

I just wanna point out that the breakthrough single (and lead single as well) can easily be the best selling single just because:
1) people don't have the album yet
2) people are interested in new artist
i do agree that PF is one of her breakthrough single, but at least JD paved way for that, and JD will remain iconic. Try asking around which is the first single of Gaga, everyone know it is JD, not PF.
