Listened to it again, and i'm less impressed. The whole song is far too monotone and unemotional. Ironically, or not, it's much weaker than either video games or Blue jeans. This song won't do anything in America.

I don't think she'll release this in America, though.

I was wondering when something completely fresh would finally come out of 2011, and Lana is it. Born To Die is a late entry, but it's easily the best pop song of the year. It just is. There's something just completely captivating about the character they've constructed, and it just works.

Does anyone else get a post-apocalyptic feel from some of her material? I can't tell if it's intentional or not, but so much of it sounds like being in a barren wasteland, a la the Fallout games.

There's so many hidden layers to the production of Video Games and Born To Die, it's wonderful. I love all the synthetic, machine-driven layers under those organic, lush strings.

I said in the other thread people need to put their headphones on and crank the sound right up - because there are lots of weird and wonderful things happening in the background of this song that you probably wouldn't consciously hear otherwise.

PS The view count on the official audio on youtube is crazy for such a new artist!


PPS I read that the video is shot down the barrel of a gun; LDR & partner are about to get executed for their misdemeanors and the video consists of flashbacks to happier times. Who knows if this is true but how ****ing fantastic would it be if true??

Agreed, the layers are amazing, but i think Born to Die is a bit overproduced, I actually prefer the live version. The chorus sounded better.

I have to say, for everything I prefer about the live version there's something I prefer about the studio version. It's like choosing between cake and ice cream.
