The only positive is that she's extremely consistent.

A #1 album is not that important, but good first week sales are, I mean +220 K first week sales shows, that you actually have a good fanbase following you or the public is aware of your album release

1. does it diminish them as icons? hm maybe... just bcz the US makes up like almost half of all music sales right? so yea in a way yes it does
2. is US#1 kinda like the holy grail? YES
3. Is an artist a flop w/o it? Absolutely not

Yes they are.. quite logically if they have a #1 in the US its because the public is more here for them.. does that make them real icons? no. but yes i suppose they would be more revered in AMERICAN pop culture
