The National Board of Review has named Martin Scorsese's ''Hugo'' the best film of the year.

Scorsese also won Best Director for the 3D pic.

George Clooney ("The Descendants") and Tilda Swinton ("We Need to Talk About Kevin") picked up acting honors.

George Clooney is so good and so likeable in The Descendants

Tilda is the queen so even though I haven't seen her film, she deserves it

Deathly Hallows being nominated for Best Movie at the oscars would make my life.I'm really excited for this movie.

Hugo was really good. It was such a unique experience.

It should. It is the third biggest movie of all time and had incredible reviews. I'm not sure anything had better average reviews this year. Plus, it's the last in the franchise.

Edit: 8th highest of the year on Metacritic, 3rd highest on RT with over 100 reviews and the highest with over 200 reviews.

And so unexpected. I loved how old-fashioned it was. It's a love letter not just to old movies but to everything old-fashioned, like books and toys.

The visuals were stunning. It was somehow so nostalgic despite the fact that my childhood isn't really associated with any of the old-fashioned stuff in the film; perhaps it's the wonder and surrealism of it all.
