My personal rankings:

1) The Prisoner of Azkaban - So much betrayal. The Peter Pettigrew/Snape/Lupin/Sirius Black storyline will forever make this my favorite in the series.

2) The Goblet of Fire - So. Much. Action. The Voldemort battle following the Triwizard Tournament, Cedric's death, and the events following are of the most haunting in the series.

3) The Half Blood Prince - Great, action filled book from start to finish, the death in the end always shocks me.

4) The Deathly Hallows - I enjoyed this overall and loved the epic end battle, but the stranded in the woods storyline lasted way too long.

5) The Order of the Phoenix - The coming of age chapter in the book. Mature, fun, and outright sadistic in some parts (Umbridge as a whole), but needed some trimming.

6) The Sorcerer's Stone
7) The Chamber of Secrets - Again, love em both but are more underdeveloped than the later entries in the series. Not quite so intricate and richly detailed.

I really hate all the odd numbered Harry Potter books. They all seem to drag or bore me to death.

BOOKS: I can't really rank the books because I tend to read all seven in a period of 7-10 days, so it's practically one continuous novel...


MOVIES:
1. Deathly Hallows (both parts together)- everything just really came together in the end
2. Order of the Phoenix- Imelda Stauton just MAKES this movie; she's so so so amazing
3. Philosopher's Stone- the most iconic in the series. I can quote the entire thing as I watch.
4. Prisoner of Azkaban- very well done; the first time you don't really see the kids as "kids" anymore.
5. Goblet of Fire- too long, too cluttered, too all-over-the-place.
6. Half-Blood Prince- they focus too much on the romance, and skipped Dumbledore's funeral.
7. Chamber of Secrets- borefest; especially with Hermione out of commission for half the film.

PS, POA + GOF are all interchangeable, but DH + OOTP are my definite favorites, and HBP + COS are my definite least favorites.

1) Goblet of Fire (I may be alone in this thought, but I always thought that the film adaptation was SUCH a disappointment because of how lacking it seemed compared to its source material. Absolutely, positively the pinnacle of the Potter book series.)

3) Order of the Phoenix (just a LITTLE too bloated. Trim it down a bit, and it's probably up there with Goblet.)
4) Prisoner of Azkaban

6) Chamber of Secrets
7) Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone (pretty much agree with Jared on the first two books, honestly)

Movies:
1) Deathly Hallows (yes, I'm ranking them as a combined entity. I may not be a large fan of the book, but I've always felt that it was the book that was the most easily adaptable, and it shows in the finished product.)
2) Prisoner of Azkaban (I still hate that Cuaron never had another chance to sit in the director's chair for a Potter film. The atmosphere that he brought to this film was so refreshing when compared to the first two films. Up until the release of DHP2, this was easily my favorite Potter film.)
3) Order of the Phoenix (the most action-packed Potter film until Deathly Hallows)
4) Goblet of Fire (as I said, such a disappointment when compared to the book, but it's still incredibly exciting)
5) Half-Blood Prince (drags in a few spots, but the best parts hit really hard)
6) Chamber of Secrets
7) Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone (comparing the first two Potter films to the other six is like comparing Baby Geniuses to Casablanca. The first two films are just so incredibly inferior compared to the films that followed.)
