NEW YORK (Billboard) - "Hips Don't Lie," a collaboration between Shakira and Wyclef Jean, comes across as inspired and original. Best of all, it is just plain fun, the kind of throwdown that could become an anthemic keepsake for summer 2006. The song serves as an ode to the fact that a decent rhythm never betrays Shakira's hips. No doubt the forthcoming video will lend credence to such a notion. Her previous single "Don't Bother" failed to propel current album "Oral Fixation Vol. 2," but this song will undoubtedly restore Shakira's rep as a sexy mama here to get the party started.

I knew it would happen at FIRST LISTEN! Shakira is amazing! It won´t be this time that ppl will say that something by Shakira is a BIG FLOP! Oral Fixation already sold 2 million, and wasn´t even released in the UK! And with the worldwide re-release with HDL, she will sell SOOO MUCH!

I love how she had to record a new song to save her album. And it's a clear attempt to make something that sounds like a hit but it just came out terrible. I'm very disappointed.

This song its more catchy than Dont Bother and La tortura together and you comment says it all........it does sounds like a HIT

The song is catchy, but overall I'm really disappointed Shakira had to resort to releasing a practicaly identical cover as a single. What sucks even more is that the original version with Claudette (from City High) is better. HDL just comes off as a huge mess.

Whatever though, if this drastic move is what it will take for people to buy and listen to the vastly supperior material on her album, then so be it.

Although I agree it's an obvious attempt at a hit....I mean she is a pop musician. This is a TRL board. Who are we all kidding really? There is really nothing to be disapointed in and why are we all of a sudden looking for integrity ( not that she has lost much from this) when we like the Gwens and Mariahs of the music scene. lol.

so true maybe its cos shakira writes her own music and some people respect her a lot for that........ but the majority dont...... they see her as any regular pop artist .......... i mean shes a Pop artist and her career will "die" with no hit.....thats really sad she died without radio .... i blame it at her for being FINE HOT MAMACITA and people expect her to do another whenever wherever.....La tortura...........and songs like that ........

ok Whenever Wherever is not a bis song, but yet much better than Don't Bother... she can do so much better, "Poem to a horse" is a popish song with good lyrics too, a lot of OF2 songs have great lyrics, but then againg she wants to succeed on the american market, so she re-releases OF2 with a new reggeton song about nothing, dancing naked with Wycleaf Jean

Shakira just completely blew it this time. She released a pop/rock track as her first single which was her first mistake. And then she put out her worst album to date which had NO radio friendly tracks on it. To be honest, I love Hips Dont Lie but I hope it flops, really badly. I hope everything she does this era flops just to show her she made a ****** album. And I personally guarantee a re-release isn't going to help her. She just lost so much respect from me this time and I have been a fan of hers since 1998. She needs to go back to the studio for another year and this time release latin dance songs that she is popular for.

Shakira says her hips have always been an indication of a great song. a history of blending music and culture with their individual bodies of work.
