There's nothing wrong with her songwriting. She just needs to write or sing something else.
Sadly, she does write about 'something else', about her family, about her friend who secretly bulimic, about how she tried to break into the music industry and finally did it, about her band. She just never releases them like she releases the love-themed songs. Most of her best songs (and the ones about 'something else') never went as singles. People really need to listen to the albums to find them. It's like a double-edged sword IMO.
Meh, that's not really Adele fans. Most of them are fans of other bases or haters of Taylor. The REAL ones were shocked that she was able to take down artists in categories in which she won. We voted and left it at that. I thought Adele should have won before the winner was revealed, but I wasn't expecting it.
Hmm, I guess they just jump on the Adele bandwagon and use it as a ride to bitch Taylor. If it's right, I think I owe an apology to Adele's fans then. So, here I say it, Sorry Adele's fans if I was being a bitch to y'all!
SMH at those people, how dare they use Adele's name to loathe on Taylor? I mean, dude, they are two best artists on the mainstream we have right now, and you want to create a fan-war between their fans? Go die in a hole, please, I beg you.
And, I didn't that surprised that Adele won over Katy & Gaga. True their fanbases are the most vocal ones on internet, but not when it comes to the real competition.
I have zero issues with her image. The only problem I have is that she has the songwriting style of a 12-year-old, imo. I don't even mind that most of her topics about relationships (it's a universal subject), it's the immature writing style that I can't get with.
I'm not "mad" or "hating" on her success. Good for her for actually accomplishing her dreams. I just don't think she's that talented of a writer. Hopefully she will mature quite a deal on her later albums.
This statement is seriously ignorant. You have obviously only heard the singles.
Go listen to "Cold as You", "Tied together with a smile", "Come in with the rain", "Untouchable", "breathe" ,"change", "long live", "last kiss" ,"Enchanted" and "Innocent".

You forget the almost-7-minute-epic "Dear John", the Taylor-chanelling-Evanescence "Haunted", the-give-me-a-tissue songs "The Best Day" & "Never Grow Up", also the-heart-wrenching-ballad songs "White Horse" & "Back to December".

I think that's the problem. Singles are supposed to promote the album. If she only releases songs like that, what do you think people will think about her music as a whole?
I don't like her voice so much, but she is a great entertainer and a huge seller indeed. I just think her songwriting skills are a little bit overrated. Well, people can like her, I ain't mad.
It's been constantly changing. Happy to tell you that you'll find a huge difference while listening to her 3 CDs. There's a dramatic elevation of maturity on Speak Now. Compare 'Picture to Burn' to 'Dear John' for example. Here's my fave lines from 'Dear John': and I took your matches/so fire won't catch me/so don't look now and I'm shining like firework/over your sad empty town. Her best song to date in my opinion, you should give it a listen.
PS: From what I've read on her New Yorker Magazine profile, looks like you'll get it (the progress in her music). She talked about 'Picture to Burn', and said that it will be a lot different now for her to talk about these kind of subjects, how she will explain these things in her music. Also there's more than one occasion that the writer found her on the verge of tears. And there's a recently changed point of view from her about life, that life is about 'achieving contentment', and 'you will not always be ridiculously happy all the time'.
I admit that all I've ever heard of her music are her singles. I'll listen to her album in full, and hopefully change my mind about her.

That statement is pretty ignorant. i am sure she is given all these songwriting awards for her immaturity, She is one of the most acclaimed songwriters in music industry for the past 5 years. People really need to understand that there in more to songwriting that writing fancy words...you need to have a good ear for a hook, you need to know how to use different lyrical schemes etc etc. This is probably why she is so highly regarded ....her technical skill of rhyming is incredible.
Did I ever challenge the fact that she has critical acclaim? No, so I'm not sure how bringing up the awards she's won contradicts anything I've said. Critics' opinions and accolades doesn't really affect my opinion of an artist one way or another.

Well no **** I've only heard her singles, how do you think people judge an artist's work before deciding that their music as a whole is worth listening to? Would you bother checking for an artist if all the singles over the span of three albums failed to impress you even the slightest bit? I'm not judging Taylor based on a few songs from just one album, so how am I being ignorant here?

At least someone on here has some common sense.
Yeah, well don't pass judgment on an artist's songwriting based on only a few that you've heard.
I saw her segment on "60 Minutes" a couple of days ago and her persona is really starting to grate. You're almost 22 years old, girl! The princess thing is getting old; time to grow up.

You should. Start from Speak Now. You'll see there's a progress with every album after you listen to them. You can listen to them without feeling the need to skip some songs, cause there's no song that screamed #1 single, they are just too good & too in-depth for radio format. None of her songs that sounds like a supermarket jingle. So, good luck, buddy!
"you are an expert at sorry, and keeping lines blurry. Never impressed finally acing your test. And all the girls
That you've run dry have tired lifeless eyes cause you burned them out. But I took your matches before fire could catch me so don't look now, I'm shining like fireworks over your sad empty town."
"time turns flames to embers, you'll have new septembers, every one of us has messed up to. Lifes change like the weather I hope you remember, today is never too late to be brand new"
"just take a moment and promise me this, that you'll stand by me forever, but if god forbid fate should step in, and force us into a goodbye, if you have children someday, when they point to the pictures, please tell them my name. Tell them how the crowds went wild, tell them how I hope they shine"
"this is me praying that this was the very first page, not where the storyline ends, my thoughts will echo your name, until I see you again, these are the words I held back as I was leaving to soon, I was enchanted to meet you"
I'd like to meet the immature teenager who could write that. Your argument is officially invalid. Find something else to drag Taylor for, you're obviously having trouble finding something.

I though it was really great actually....how she is in full control of her artistry/manages herself. CEO of an enormous corporation at the age of 21.
She is way too smart for some of you people to comprehend. This persona has kept her a megastar for 6 years... bitch knows what she is doing.

Absolutely. I respect her as a businesswoman, and it's nice that she's a positive role model for young girl. I just find her to be incredibly irritating as a person.
I wanted to slap her fake ass watching the AMA's tonight, with that mouth open surprised look she does. Bitch you've won every award known to man...stop acting like you're so innocent and surprised when you win, you're expecting it and you love it. Someone should threaten to shove a big dick in her mouth on stage if she pulls it again.
