Rihanna is a force outside the US. Rihanna can only sell singles in the US. She's actually still a single artist in the US. Her album sales show that. Loud sold 6M+ WW but 5M+ is from outside the US and only 1.5M is from the US.
If Rihanna was selling under a million records I might be more inclined to agree. I'm sorry but selling 6 million records is more important than getting a #1. IMO only stans care about #1's so they can throw it in people's faces and use it as bragging rights.
Flash in the pans get #1's and then fade away into obscurity. That's the difference between people like them and Rihanna.

Uhm who cares about first week sales? She always ends up going platinum or more in the U.S. Rihanna just doesn't have the kind of crazy must-get-album-as-soon-as-its-out type of fans. Others have debuted higher than her, and sold less in the end.

I agree. I mean GGGB had Umbrella, and the other albums too had smash singles. Rihanna is one of music's biggest stars, and the fact that she STILL can't make a #1 album it's just so crazy.
