'Get off the air': Petition wants Kardashian TV ban
Celebrity socialite Kim Kardashian and her family are facing calls for them to be taken off the air.
The reality show unit has received a backlash after Kim's lavish televised nuptials resulted in a
divorce filing just 72 days later.
There have been claims that her marriage to Kris Humphries was a hoax and now several organisations are petitioning to get the 31-year-old, her sisters Khloe and Kourtney and the matriarch Kris Jenner off television screens.
"In a grass roots effort, we have collected [thousands of] signatures for a petition asking E! Entertainment to remove the Kardashian suite of shows from their programming," Cyndy Snider, organiser of one of the petitions said in a statement originally published on Yahoo TV.
"We feel that these shows are mostly staged and place an emphasis on vanity, greed, promiscuity, vulgarity and over-the-top conspicuous consumption."
The No More Kardashian lobby on GoPetition has received more than
10,000 signatures so far. The family have the Keeping Up With The Kardashians show as well as Kourtney and Kim Take New York, Khloe & Lamar and other productions in the works.
"While some may have begun watching the spectacle as mindless entertainment or as a sort of 'reality satire,' it is a sad truth that many young people are looking up to this family and are modelling their appearance and behaviour after them," Snider added.
"I'll remind you here that the Kardashian family fame largely started with a 'leaked' sex tape."
Kim has denied that her wedding was staged and said she would "never marry for a TV show or for money".
