Basically, there are a few types of add.
There is an early add, which is when the radio station decides to add it before the adds date.
There is an add, which is when the radio station decides to add it on the adds date.
The best way to describe the two is that adding a song early is like going on iTunes to buy a song and then play it, while adding it on the adds date is like playing a song that is already in your library - arguably adding it early is better because it shows that the radio station likes the song enough to add it before it has been officially sent to radio.
The other type of add is a called an 'auto add'. This is a little bit trickier. Most of the time, radio stations won't play a song until they have added it. So usually, a station will play the song for the first time after it has added it. An auto add, however, occurs when the station has played the song enough for Mediabase to automatically add it to the stations adds list for that week. Auto adds are unlikely to have an effect on the radio updates for the week following its add, as it has most likely already been played quite a lot the week before to qualify for an auto add.
Hope that helps
