The first Zelda I have ever played was the Oot remake for the 3DS and I really enjoyed it, so I am seriously considering getting this.
Since I really don't know much about the Zelda series, can someone who does tell me how well these play on home consoles as opposed to portable ones like the 3DS?

If you like Ocarina's gameplay you're going to love any Zelda game after it, as that game pretty much built the 3D Zelda formula and it hasn't changed much at its core since. But I played the Gamecube version of Ocarina so I wouldn't know how it differs from the 3DS one.
I doubt it'll be better than Twilight Princess though. Unless Midna comes back
