8 4 Brokeback Mountain Focus $4,192,000 -30.2% 1,963 -126 $2,135 $66,628,000 $14 10

11 7 Something New Focus $2,481,000 -49.2% 1,265 - $1,961 $8,441,000 - 2
12 10 The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe BV $2,123,000 -30.9% 1,302 -414 $1,630 $284,792,000 $180 10
13 9 Walk the Line Fox $2,000,000 -39.2% 1,248 -329 $1,602 $113,675,000 $28 13
- After FD3 had the obvious lead Friday night, the panther had other business in mind with a monstrous Saturday gain and a better estimated Sunday drop to take the surprise weekend victory. Not to take away from FD3, it had the best PTA in the top from 600 fewer theatres than PP, and it was the highest opening for the franchise.
- 'Curious George' saw huge matinee business and was able to eclipse 'Firewall' which skewed heavily adults. With the new horror flick in town, 'When A Stranger Calls' saw a respectable and expected 53% drop.
- Elsewhere, 'Brokeback Mountain' sees the best oscar contender drop approaching 70 million. 'Walk The Line' continues to sizzle and is still adding to that amazing 113 million total. 'Narnia' is still looking good for 300 million.

Well no **** that Pink Panther is going to debut at #1. It was sold out yesterday in 3 showtimes. I'm seeing it today in 20 minutes. Yay.

^ Well no **** that your one local theatre represents what, 0.01% of the overall box office?
Pink Panther having that size of an opening debut was a huge surprise.
And it's monstrous gain from Fri - Sat wasn't seen by the likes of many other family-orientated movies.

I'm not surprised at all, they had ton of promotion and made it appeal to a wide age group. It was gonna be that top 2 either way. And usually what my theater usually has sold out usually wins the weekend, lol.

yeah this is lame... as long as it doesn't make 50 million in the u.s. i'm fine. they spent 80 million on the movie and i'm guessing like 40 million to promote it. so as long as it doesn't exceed 120 million it will be considered as a flop.

I think this is probably one of the most hyped-up movies in the last 10 years....we still need to see how long it will last at the box office.
One thing's for sure, I don't expect this to get many oscar / academy award nominations.

I can get tickets here for 5 bucks. But that's only if it's before a certain time I believe. I saw FD3 at 5 on Friday and it was only 5 bucks. 50 cents cheaper. It depends on the Theater I guess and how they change thier night prices.

The hype surrounding "Pink Panther" is GIGANTIC, it would've been a surprise if it DIDN'T debut at #1.

The hype? It was critically panned, and the release was moved back 6 months from it's original release against 'Dukes of Hazzard'.
If anything, people were awaiting the bomb to drop.
