He actually has a really good point, surprisingly, and I sometimes use Tumblr (not on it a lot though).

I could not agree more with him. I don't own a Tumblr, but I do use it, and while it can be incredibly useful at times, most of the people on it do absolutely nothing of worth. Same goes for Facebook, Twitter and the like. I think it has to do with the fact that its users are mainly teenagers, and they usually don't have interesting lives outside of the ones the create on the net. They really do live vicariously through the fantasy worlds they construct.
As for people sending hateful messages toward him, I have to say that it's amazing how the shield of anonymity can make a person feel brave enough to say things that they would never dare say aloud in real life. ****ing cowards.

Very well said, but artists like him should actually take advantage of this "special power" to help spread their music.

I love tumblr but I hate twitter tbh. I find twitter invasive even though it is used by choice...I don't know, it encourages oversharing.
The greatest evil is formspring though.

As much as I love tumblr that is totally true. There are so many people who think they're hot **** on tumblr while that may not be the case in their real life unfortunately.

I agree in a sense. I use Tumblr, but personally, the people I know that use it aren't the cliquey-kind of cool girls in school that Drake speaks of. I mean, Tumblr is the anti-Facebook in a sense. There are more of the artistic, open-minded, alternative sort of people on there that I know in life. The popular girls and boys are still on Facebook talking about getting smashed on the weekend. Tumblr is like an escape from reality, which explains why it may come across as a fantasy land. But it's kind of like living some sort of glamorous life visually, that you can physically not experience. Although it's not real, it allows people to believe and become ambitious.

There's nothing new under the sun, including the concept of mundane people living vicariously through celebrities. All we get is new technology through which to express it. It's silly to condemn the medium itself, because that's all it is, a new way of doing the same thing that's been done before... but the medium obviously provides a new way to do useful things as well.

Here is what someone wrote in response to his comment on another website:
I’m a fan of Drake’s but not because anyone has told me I need to be. Instead I’m a fan cause I like the majority of what he puts out *shrugs* didn’t know that made me a follower. In regards to his social media comments, he’s right in a way. There is an entire generation that has been raised with social media as an outlet and source of entertainment and as a result, there is now an entire generation lacking the skill sets learned from face to face communication, who seem to be unable to exist without being logged in to the internet and lack common etiquette, decency and respect for others. The very fact that someone could feel it appropriate to tell a stranger that they hope their mother dies is a testament to that. These kids will say anything because they get to hide behind a monitor and think that just because the person they’re directing their hatred andanger to is a stranger or a celebrity that somehow it’s okay. Think about all the tumblr pages devoted to Beyonce, Nicki and other celebs. These usually aren’t adults doing this but children who have focused their entire lives on a celebrity they will likely never even speak to. The young people on here just a couple weeks ago tatting Beyonce’s name on their body… this is their generation he’s speaking to and about. When I was growing up you had magazine articles and videos. You may put pictures up in your room but never did I witness the obsession these kids have with people they don’t even know, or the vindictiveness towards those they don’t like or who don’t have the same likes as them. Something needs to be said about it because it’s scary when you really think about it. And I don’t think social media is all bad but in the hands of youth who don’t know better it’s kinda like a timebomb waiting to go off
