BEYONCE EXTENDS NO. 1 REIGN ON BILLBOARD: Beyonce says song began as “a joke.”
Beyonce’s latest single “Check on It,” from upcoming “Pink Panther” soundtrack, keeps its seat atop the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for a second straight week. The track also stays atop the Pop 100 chart and moves up 5-3 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The Houston native can’t believe the track is so popular, considering it was originally written as a joke. She explains to EUR, “I got a really bad track from a producer and I couldn’t write anything to it so we started playing around and started saying ‘check on it’ and I remembered it. And when they said they wanted something for the movie, I thought well, even though it’s silly, it’s fun. And this movie is a comedy; it’s all about fun. “So I finished writing it and put the ‘Pink Panther’ theme music in the beginning and shot the video wearing pink throughout the whole video, and it became a No. 1 song.”
Meanwhile, it was announced Thursday that Beyonce and her former Destiny’s Child sisters Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams will come together to present a Grammy award during the Feb. 8 ceremony at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Although the mini-reunion gives Beyonce another chance to see her old band members, the singer/actress says she’s gotten used to flying solo. “I do like it because now I’m able to commit six months to something without feeling guilty because other people’s lives are affected by my life,” she says. “Even though it’s very scary and it’s harder to make decisions by myself and I have to really kind of listen to my instincts a lot more, it’s cool.”
Like people was saying...Beyonce is even surprised this is #1. She hardly put any thought into this song and just said she just wrote it because it was fun. Now its #!!! The power!!
I told you guys that she didn't even intend the song to be released. That's why she said the comment in the thread I posted, I mean she could try not to have a No. 1 and it still gets there....
This just proves how ****** America's taste in music truly is. If Run It can get to #1, why can't Check On It. It makes me sad how QUALITY songs can't even crack the Top 20...
