She swears in some of her songs, which is why someone was offended. If they were offended, they still have the choice of not going. How does freedom of (artistic)expression have nothing to do with this problem? Explain.

She can do whatever the **** she likes in her performances. She could come out stark naked, a swatsika in one hand and an "I heart slavery" banner in the other, scream "HAIL HITLER" for 20 minutes and then walk off stage. That's perfectly within her rights. But obviously, nobody would want that abomination in their venue. Your college is well within its right to decide who can or cannot play at their venue because they own it. Kreayshawn can buy her own venue and have complete artist freedom, provided it doesn't breach other laws.

It's like this forum. You have every right to think gay people deserve to be burnt at the stake, but if you start spamming that around ATRL you're gonna get banned. Because ATRL is a privately owned forum and can censor what they like.

There are other complaints you can make about your school in this situation; like you said, "they still have the choice of not going". But freedom of speech/expression isn't relevant here.

This problem doesn't focus on the school's decision to cancel the performance though. She was orgininally scheduled to perform with the permission of the school obviously UNTIL a student "spoke out" about her use of profanity. How should you get offended by an artistic expression. It's not as if she is trying to send a political message with her lyrics that actually goes against the school.

Get as outraged as you want about the college's decision not to let her play, they were still well within their rights. Free speech and expression doesn't come in it at all.

What? I don't have a problem with the school deciding to not let her play, it is the reason why it got to the point where the school cancelled her performance that I disagree with. If this student didn't want to go to the performance, they could've just not gone but instead they complained about it.

How does that not have to do with the reason why this person should not be offended? She has the write to use profanity in her songs, and someone shouldn't take offense to her artistic expression.

She can write whatever she likes. People can take offence to whatever they like. People can complain about whatever they want to. The College can give their venue to whoever they like.

So it's fine for the school to deny someone of their performance because one person feels offended by it? No. Thanks for your insight anyway.

And I don't get how it's offensive for a white person to say the "n" word. She isn't even using the "black" definition of that word! A lot of people call whites "cracker" these days...

Well for one, if the school thought it was best to make a decision like that last minute, I think it's important for people who were interested in seeing her to understand why it happened because I think that was completely unfair. My school denied the to have the "Vagina Monologues" but there was a pretty big deal about that so I would like for people to have a similar discussion about this.
