Fox's In Time opened in third place with $12.05 million. The sci-fi film starring Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried opened on the very low end of pre-release expectations. Like Puss in Boots, In Time will hope to hold up well next weekend. In Time opened with $4.29 million on Friday and registered a weekend to Friday ratio of 2.81 to 1. The film's opening weekend was 14 percent softer than that of this year's Red Riding Hood.
Internationally, In Time grossed $14.5 million from 35 foreign markets. Key grosses included $4.3 million in Russia, $2.5 million in Australia and $1.7 million in South Korea.
Having an even tougher time this weekend was FilmDistrict's The Rum Diary. The Johnny Depp vehicle debuted in fifth place with just $5.14 million, as the film opened below its already modest expectations and generated the weakest opening weekend of a FilmDistrict release to date. After opening with $1.84 million on Friday, The Rum Diary registered a weekend to Friday ratio of 2.79 to 1.
