Lady Gaga: "I'm very inspired by Indian women"
This is a great and fresh interview of Gaga in India so I want to share.
Quote:
She claims to be a regular 25-year-old, working hard to make her parents proud, but Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, known to the world as Lady Gaga, is anything but regular.
And despite her public avatars, Lady Gaga wants to be remembered as a soul who dared to be brave; someone who believes that "creativity is the greatest form of rebellion". In India to talk about her album "Born This Way" and to perform at Arjun Rampal's closing party for India's inaugural Grand Prix, Lady Gaga spoke to DT about being the one woman behind the hundreds that people see in the papers and on television.
How were you first introduced to India and when did you decide to come here?
I love reading Osho, so that was my first experience with India. And I've been working withDeepak Chopra, so obviously India is essentially this notoriously beautiful place. I could not wait to come here. But, for the first two years of my career, I could not afford it. Even when "Bad Romance" came out, I was in debt... So much money in putting everything together for my stage show, but now I feel very grateful and fortunate to be able to travel here and meet my fans.
Hindu symbolism is evident in your work. Is there any other way in which India or the Indian philosophy is evident in your life?
I'm very inspired by Indian women. I love how Indian women take care of themselves. Their eyes, in particular, so beautiful. I have really never seen such beautiful eyebrows. I am an Italian woman and I love thick, beautiful eyebrows. After I wrote "Born This Way" and I started giving interviews, particularly interviews with Indian reporters, I'd speak about rebirth and they'd say that rebirth is a huge part of the Indian culture. So, I began to reflect on how reincarnation was relevant for my own record and how it was about being reborn over and over again in your own lifetime in a way to kill off the evil obstacles that you've been through and move to a place of happiness and liberation.
Do you plan to discover more of India through this trip?
I do plan to travel around, but I want to go to more local places and I have plans to go to a few orphanages. I'm not sure exactly where all. It's more important for me to connect with the people right now; also because I don't have much time here, so I want to use my time to get to know the locals and then go to some special places that make me get involved and help, and maybe next time I'll see the monuments.
When you started your journey as a musician, where did you see yourself going in the next couple of years? Did you work towards a future with this much fame?
I never really thought of the future in terms of success, in the sense of fame. It was always important for me to make great music and the thing I want people in India to know the most is to know that I am the artiste behind everything. I wrote all of the songs; I'm the song, I write all of the music, all the visuals, the fashion, the performances, the performance art - it all comes from me. In my culture, in America, it's very hard to convince people that you are a strong and confident and smart woman. It's the same everywhere really. But it's important for me to have this connection with my Indian fans and I want them to know the genuineness from which my work comes from.
But also know that I am extremely grateful to be here. I never could have perceived what has happened in my life, but it's been wonderful and my family, we are, you know, better than ever.
How does your family react to your fame now?
As long as I come back home and make my dad dinner every time I am in New York, we are okay.
Coming to Bollywood, besides Arjun Rampal, do you know of any other Bollywood actors?
Priyanka (Chopra), yes. Priyanka is wonderful and I am very excited for her musical career.
When did you first meet her?
She is stunningly beautiful and she came to the Monster Ball on my birthday. It was my birthday in Los Angeles and she was there and I was so happy to meet her.
Any other Bollywood actors that you know of?
I'm sure I would... But Priyanka's my favourite. I'm her cheerleader
Do you ever plan to act in a movie?
I suppose so, some day I may. I love acting. I went to acting school for many years. But as of now, I am really focusing on music.
You have a lot of sides to your personality. How about attempting to describe yourself in five words...
I'm creative, rebellious, passionate, brave and romantic.
Brave... That's interesting? In what context are you brave?
That's how I want to be remembered. Some people may not like my music or the way I dress, or they might not like some of the things that I believe in, or that I say, but I hope that years from now, when people look back on me as an artiste and think that no matter what anyone thought of her, she was brave.
Will we ever see you then working on a romantic album?
Maybe, perhaps in the future. I am quite romantic. I like bad romance though.
From start to finish, how much time does it take for you to put together everything for your album?
It really depends. We are really just having fun. We are a bunch of 25-year-old kids who are rebellious through our creativity. It sometimes takes hours, and sometimes it takes a bit.
What was your first impression of Delhi like?
It's just beautiful. Everyone is so nice. That's what I keep saying, 'Everyone is so nice, everyone is so nice!'. There were fireworks everywhere. I got to see it from my hotel window... All night long.
Do you plan to shop in Delhi?
Yes, I plan to go later today. I love costume jewellery; fake jewels. From wherever. My mom always wore it so I was hoping that I'd be able to pick something like that.
When do we see you in India next?
I hope to come back very soon and I hope to be able to go to Mumbai and travel more around India. My dream, my absolute dream and I hope to make it happen, although I can't make promises, my dream would be to have a free show here - an open thing, in a wide open space. That's my dream.

All these Indian interviews are way better than the repetitive American ones. I think someone should ask her more challenging stuff though, all her interviews have become predictable, and not unexpectedly fun like they used to be.
