Now, we all know X had the potential to be Kylie's best album. This was her comeback (well, Showgirl: Homecoming really was but never mind that) from cancer. The songs could been personal and dear to Kylie's heart but instead we got this ****.
There is one very personal song on here (and it shines for that reason alone).
Do you think the album was good enough, or should it have been more personal and included songs like this?
I personally don't really know what a post-breast cancer survivor album would sound like. Which is why I am boggled by some of the criticisms made by her detractors of 'X'. Yes I guess the album could have been better produced, sharper in a lot of areas but why in the world would someone want an album full of overly weepy ballads from Kylie? It sounds like so many of her UK critics and fans wanted her to create a Susan Boyle album and that just is not her. I don't believe it ever has been. Especially since Kylie has marketed herself from 2000 onward as a bubbly light hearted dance Queen. That's what she is known for and that's why she became popular again. Her big comeback in 2000 has been all about the dance music and flinging your cares away to dance. Kylie's always been fun, campy and super gay so while 'X' wasn't her best album I am constantly at a loss as to why people think it should have been this postmortem attempt about her battle scars with cancer.
But we all know Kylie was at her happiest as an artist when she was doing Kylie Minogue and Impossible Princess. The album certainly needed its fix of "Wows," "In My Armses," and "Nu-di-tys," but what was stopping management from putting songs like "Flower" on? Kylie wanted this album to be more personal, but Parlophone stepped in to stop it from becoming another IP.
