"Reality" television has taken over our generation and I think it's disgusting to say the least, but what's more annoying is the fact that the masses buy into the pure nonsense that TV executives feed to us. We get so heavily involved in the show and even let our emotions do as well (me being an exception). So many seem to forget or even realize that reality Tv is fake & calculated for "entertainment purposes" -- reality shows that contain substance and requires people to posses actual talent is fine with me (i.e. So you think you can dance?, The voice, The sing off, American Idol, etc.)
The shows that I'm not here for is: Keeping up with the Kardashians, Jersey shore, The bad girls club, The housewives of [insert random county here], Basketball wives, etc.
Granted some of those shows may contain comedy to a certain extent which helps viewers get their "kiii" but overall that **** is a mess, those "reality stars" are immensely over paid for no reason. And I'm not even hating because they're making money, the point is what they're doing to bring in all that income. For example, Snooki literally makes millions for doing what? fighting with roommates while getting drunk and in trouble with the law only to turn around and get rewarded for that wreck less & childish behavior by MTV with a paycheck with a lot of zeros at the end.
I admit I watched the first and second season of 'The bad girls club' and viewed the 3rd season randomly but it quickly became a bore because it's always the same predictable shenanigans with them; go out and party and get **** faced, come home and physically fight one another over insignificant matters only to go to bed mad then wake up the next morning to do it all over again. Why do we even support these "reality" shows by tuning in weekly increasing the ratings while simultaneously putting undeserving money into these "stars" pockets?
One takes away nothing from these shows but a lower IQ and new gifs and catch phrases they use to "drag" someone via the internet. I'd pray for our generation if I wasn't an atheist.
Some people watch these shows for entertainment purposes and just make fun of them. But some people must be dumb if they think these hows are actually real because it's not. It's scripted. But I agree with you on these reality stars getting paid way paid way too much. One thing I do hate is that many of these young teens look up to these reality stars. You shouldn't look up to them. But some of them do. Which is sad.
I was having this discussion with my sister not too long ago.
I won't say that I despise it because that would be a lie. I get my giggles out of it, but some of it can be a nuisance. Case in point - Jersey Shore. The fact that those idiots have become such pop culture phenomenons is just disgusting.
Also, while I like the housewives shows, some of them really do show off for the cameras, especially those common hoodrats from Basketball Wives. "Reality" is used very loosely.
I don't like it because it provides a shortcut to fame. People use to have to work to the top. Now they can get fame just by ****ing, drinking, partying and fighting (see: Jersey Shore). It shows how you can literally get paid, most than actual society contributors, and have no education and do nothing.
The only thing that irks me is that cast like Jersey Shore is getting paid six-figure salaries per episode, so basically ten episode = one million. They're getting paid to get drunk, party, etc.

Exactly, and young kids inspire to be like these lames which makes it worse. Some of these "stars" even have the audacity to walk around with a pretentious attitude like they're worthy of their fame. It's like, bitch please, you contribute nothing to Hollywood and your claim to fame is a sex tape.

Wasn't there a big hoopla because the folks over the Hollywood Walk of Fame said that reality stars are not allowed recognition until they provide credentials of other work and achievements? Can you blame the committee for saying "no" to these overnight celebrities?
Also, I cannot stand that Teen Mom mess. I watched it a couple of times, and it's not like they are trying to teach the young people that being a teen parent is not the best thing to do. Most of those folks on there are always in the news for stealing or beating up someone.
I watch "Basketball WIves", but that's only to laugh at the sheer ratchetness those women possess.
I don't watch any other reality show mainly because I'm just sick of that whole niche. Reality tv came along and replaced music videos, sitcoms, and quality television series. That and the fact that the majority of the people who choose to go on reality shows are usually desperate, uneducated, and complete trash.
And I absolutely hate how the ONLY representation black women have is those drink-throwing, weave pulling hoodrats on "Basketball Wives" and "The Real Housewives of Atlanta".
Can we PLEASE get a well written, well acted show that showcases real women of color?
lol forgot all about that chick. And yup, she did start that "trend" before New York. But I'm dead at her nipple peaking out in that photo
I watched that season of The Apprentice, and even though she was bitchy, Omarosa did not start the trend. She was a "bitch" and it was a love her or hate her thing. But truly it was New York who started the trend two years later on Flavor of Love. She had people who love her because of her bitchyness and her comments, which many of her quotes are still legendary til this day.
Because of New York, we got spin offs like I Love New York, Rock of Love, Real Chance of Love, Flavor of Love Charm School, I Love Money, Daisy of Love, and tons more.

Sadly, no one wants to see a program about strong, educated black women. They would rather support a show showcasing women who act like they're from the middle of Compton or Carson somewhere.
A lot of people don't realize the animosity that comes along doing reality shows.
Most reality stars don't last long and when they try to dabble in something else, whether it be music or acting, they're usually ridiculed and never taken seriously. And sooner later, people are going to get tired of watching you and what will you do then?

I agree with this wholeheartedly. This show on VH1 called "Single Ladies" is a start, but the acting is average at best.

Ahh you're right, I forgot all about that. If I remember correctly it was the cast from the Jersey shore who were mad because they couldn't receive a star on the Hollywood walk of fame. The fact that they think they're even worthy of such an honor...I can't.
These producers also tell them how to act just so they can create drama. A certain reality star told me about it on Twitter. She also said these producers edit these shows to make you look or act a certain way. It's to the point now where reality shows over scripted now. I still watch some of them. But I hate Jersey Shore and The Kardashian show. But I know it's all fake.
I am a big fan of competition reality shows like I Love Money, RuPaul Drag Race, Ton of Cash (which VH1 barely marketed) Big Brother, and others.
