Lady Gaga, who infamously rocked a dress made entirely or raw meat at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards,
has reportedly been challenged by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) India to wear a lettuce dress in support of vegetarianism.
Mother Monster will be heading to the motherland of vegetarianism for the country's first Formula 1 Grand Prix race in New Delhi and to perform at an invitation-only concert at one of the city's five-star hotels on Sunday (Oct. 30).
Upon hearing of her arrival in their country
, PETA India has put pressure on the pop star to embrace and promote vegetarianism -- even offering her a hand-stitched lettuce gown to pose in for a photo shoot. As of yet, Gaga has not publicly accepted PETA India's challenge for the pro-veg campaign.
Gaga was immediately questioned by animal rights activists and vegetarians following her meat dress moment, including vegan talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, who gifted her a lettuce bikini. "It's certainly no disrespect to anyone that's vegan or vegetarian, as you know I'm the most judgment free human being on the earth," Gaga explained to Ellen.
She continued, "However, it has many interpretations. For me, if we don't stand up for what we believe in, if we don't fight for our rights, pretty soon we are going to have as much rights as the meat on our bones." "And I am not a piece of meat," she added.
