I haven't heard the album, but I'm not surprised by the reviews. Their singles sound a bit "too poppish" for a Rock band. Plus, they aren't HUGE critical favorites.
Cmon guys you have to admit, from Paradise to POC, none of these songs are ANYTHING to rave about. They are average pop songs with nothing more. I mean it is Coldplay. Viva La Vida as a whole was not an extraordinary album but DAMN the first single is a MASTERPIECE, it is so good that until this day I'm still amazed by how good it is.
Good luck to them though. And it is not only about the change in their sound because VLV was a turn too, but a great one. I am a fan and I should be over the top excited but the material is just lackluster, just like U2's last album.
