North Korea: Mothers Kill Children to Survive Hunger
Quote:
Kim Hye Sook suffered unbearable pain and emotional suffering when she was detained for 28 years in a secretive North Korean concentration camp. Brutal executions, starvation — even mothers killing and eating their children to ensure their own survival — were regular occurrences.
Kim — who miraculously escaped from the Bukchang prison camp back in 2003 – granted CBN News with the first American television news interview to discuss these horrendous conditions. She now lives in South Korea, with the details of her escape remaining classified for security reasons. This summer, she released a memoir entitled, “A Concentration Camp Retold in Tears.”
When she was 13-year-old, her tragic tale began. The year was 1975 and in the blink of an eye the young girl was captured alongside her entire family. After years of suffering, she didn’t taste freedom until she was 41-years-old.
Today, Kim wears dark glasses to ensure that her identity remains concealed. While she lost seven family members in the re-education camp, she currently has two sisters and a brother who are still imprisoned.
While her descriptions of executions are absolutely horrendous, nothing is more disturbing than her memories about those individuals who she saw kill their children in an effort to stave off hunger. In one instance, she recalls a mother boiling her 9-year-old daughter. In another fit of desperation, a woman killed her 16-year-old son, chopped him up and took him to a butcher to obtain some corn in exchange.
Kim admits that these details are difficult to share, but she bravely proclaims, “I want the world to see these images and to hear my testimony.” In describing the conditions in the isolated and volatile nation, she says, “I am living proof that there are no human rights in North Korea.” In September, she was invited to Washington, D.C., where she testified before a congressional panel about the conditions she faced.
If you guys are too lazy to read the article - just watch the video, it's worth it.
Damn, I've watched so many North Korean documentaries and it's just so saddening. The place is so ****ed up. If you try to escape - they'll kill you. If you do escape, they kill your family. I watched a documentary recently on it, and one man escaped from North Korea, and when they asked him where is his family now, he started crying and said he doesn't want to talk about it. And he also said when he escaped North Korea, he never knew there were people that wasn't "Korean" Place is seriously crazy.
I don't know much about North Korea. I only know some things about South Korea through K-Pop. But I can't say I'm surprised because everything I hear about North Korea is bad.

Yeah, 99% of the population doesn't even know what a cellphone or computer is... Or that it even exists

What the ****.
When I was even more naive, I always wondered why all of Korea's pop stars came from the South. Now I know why. North Korea probably isn't even allowed to listen to music.
Yeah, it's one hella ****ed up place. I remember during the 2010 world cup, they paid Chinese actors to be "fans" in the audience. Which sounds funny, until you realize it's because they aren't about to let their own people escape so easily. Not to mention the NK football team were never seen again after they lost...
More reasons why I only use teh south when I'm talking about Korea, their people, movies, music and koreanovelas...
UN should really do something about this tho. I hope a revolution happens on the scale of Libya take-over cause a peaceful rally ain't going to cut it for this country...

Nuclear weapon, do you remember this incident?
I heard the story but I don't keep up with North Korean news now that my attention gone to Japan this year, with PS Vita releasing this year and all that.
But completely* brainwashed?
Maybe they aren't. But they're just gone done with their lives as if they were on the right track and they were born that way baby.
North Korea is a crazy country. I once saw a documentary of it. There was this teacher signing a song with this little girl on a very cute melody but when I read the lyrics. It was about killing people and ****. This is just crazy.
