Actually she doesn't. Shania Twain has the biggest female album EVER, which is, only in the US, 20X Platinum. Other female albums that sold more than any of Madonna's are Alanis' "Jagged Little Pill", which is 16X Platinum, I guess, and Britney's "...Baby One More Time" 14X Platinum - these numbers are only from the US.

Madonna only has more cuz shes been out 6 yesrs longer than Mariah, but that has nothing to do with this.
Carrie is gonna be 2X Platinum soon
Good for Keyshia and AAR, both around 700k.

Much to all these albums.
And Mike, TEOM is not the best-selling album by a female in the US ever. I can't believe you would actually assume that lol. Tons of albums come after TEOM. In the new millenium/downloading era alone we've had Britney's BOMT and OIDIA, Christina's debut, Alicia Key's SIAM, Shania's Up!, Avril's Let Go, and maybe others as well selling more than TEOM. The 20th century had many names as well like Mariah, Whitney, Madonna, and many MANY more.

Well actually Madonna's Like A Virgin and Immaculate Collection have sold better than any of Mariah's albums in the states. True Blue is pretty much tied with Daydream and Music Box.

Anthony, let's not forget that Shania's album was out long before the downloading era began...not to take anything away from Shania though....

Yeah, that's an important point. But Madonna's biggest album, The Immaculate Collection, also came out waaay before the download era. I guess the downloads started to make a big difference in the album sales by mid-2000.

Shania's COO album was released in 1997 and it wouldn't of matter how much downloading was going on since her album would of blown away any album by a long shot anyway. It was an icon making album that sold over 39 million worldwide.
Micahel Jacksons thriller?, now that was before downloading started.
Shania's COO sold so much more than any female album that it would of been #1 anyway.

Oh my. :-/ I shouldn't have defended Shania. Come on, it's obvious COO wouldn't sell 20 million in the US if it was released after 2000, for example.

ANthony, you missed the point. Shania's COO would of been the #1 female album of alltime nomatter when it was released. Many massive female stars released albums way before Shania's and couldn't even come close to her numbers.
Nowadays you have no massive female stars that trancend genres. And nowadays you have a lot of different people who have money now to buy albums.
Like get a clue. Shania's COO was released in 1997 and was selling huge well into 2000 and 2001 at height of downloading.
