Just wondering... If you were rich and successful, and you had a family member (siblings, cousin, parents, aunts/uncles or even grandparents) that you do not like but they needed to help, would you help them? (And would you help them if they needed serious help like money/health issues?)

There's a Madonna thread here where her brother is currently homeless and is expecting help from his wealthy sister, but 3 years prior he wrote an unflattering tell all book about his sister Madonna.

And Mariah Carey's sister, who is HIV positive (Video here at 4:25). After the interviewer said Mariah has helped paid for her drug rehab (even after their off relationship), she said "But she would never let me forget one single cent she's ever spent on me. [...] I wouldn't take another dime from her."

So would you help a family member (even if you HATED them) if they needed help?

I have some family members I don't exactly get on with, but none of them have done horrible, unforgivable things to me that would make such a situation really hard for me to ponder. Yes, I would help them out if they were in need and I had the means to do so.

EDIT: And in no circumstances would I let them die if their lives depended on having money. Even if I didn't have the means.

Depends, if they were a drug/gambling addict or an alcoholic I wouldn't give them money directly absoloutely not it would only fuel their addiction. I'd help pay for their rehab but I certainly wouldn't put a cent into their accounts directly. Likewise I'm sure I'd help them get settled somewhere if they didn't have a house but I'm not going to buy them a house maybe pay a deposit for them if they really need it. I don't see why being more succesful than your family members means you should be obligated to prop them up.

And yes I would help my family memeber.... Especially if Im able to.

Example: My dad has four brothers, four sisters. All of them have are married, have at least two kids. So I have more than sixteen cousins on my dad side. All of them are close with each other... except for me. When I go to the parties, it's really awkward to see my cousins all close and I'm just awkward ... the outer circle. We only go because everyone (his mom and siblings) all want to see him, and my mom goes because it's respectful... Even though they don't care about me (or my sister or mom).

But anyway... If I was rich, and one of my cousin, aunts, or uncles needed help financially, I would not help them. I've been on the earth for twenty years, went to all their parties, and I was left unnoticed. When they take family pictures at parties.. They never include my family (only my dad).
