It had a pretty melody though, and the sadness was relatable to a lot of people which is why it was such a big hit. This whole victim image has gotten really stale for Kelly. In fact, it got stale a quarter of the way through Breakaway. She needs to get some perspective on life before she can write songs worthy of her vocal prowess and charming personality.

I don't ever think Kelly has projected an image that of a victim. She's been angry yes, she's been hurt yes, but she's shown resolve in spite of such situations. RCA's old regime tried the happy-go-lucky rainbows and lucky charms image on 'All I Ever Wanted' and it wasn't who she was or the image she wanted to project.
The concept for this album is of empowerment, loving yourself and being a stronger person. People assume all the songs are about an ex, which they aren't. Some songs are about people, work, situations. It varies.
Kelly was at her darkest and most bitter during the 'My December' era. It had its place. She's over that.
