Coldplay claims world's top selling album of 2005 says IFPI
From HITS:
The mood was set with the news that Coldplay's X&Y will be identified by the IFPI as the worldwide top seller of 2005 at 8.3 million units (followed by Mariah Carey, Green Day and 50 Cent, with the Black Eyed Peas, Madonna and Kelly Clarkson duking it out for #5).
Summary:
World's Best Selling Albums In 2005:
1 - Coldplay - X&Y 8.3 million units
2 - Mariah Carey - The Emancipation Of Mimi
3 - Green Day - American Idiot
4 - 50 Cent - The Massacre
5 - Whichever it may be : Black Eyed Peas - Monkey Business, Madonna - Confessions On A Dancefloor or Kelly Clarkson - Breakaway
Coldplay definitely deserves this honor, but a nice showing for Green Day, Kelly, Mariah and Madonna (notice how I left out 50? cuz that whole album is crap)
