AOL Music: PARIS HILTON previews album due SPRING.
AOL MUSIC-
When Paris Hilton invites you to a party -- aboard a party bus, no less -- how could you possibly say no?
To introduce her forthcoming Warner Bros. debut album due out this spring, the celebutante-***-pop star invited AOL Music staff to preview her new songs inside a leather-appointed, Rice Krispies treat-stocked bus in midtown Manhattan on Wednesday.
Flanked by label reps and bodyguards, Hilton greeted curious listeners with her billion-dollar smile and casually answered questions about the as-yet untitled album. While the music played, Paris nibbled on a cupcake (fashionable white frosting dotted by M&Ms) and bounced in her seat, singing along to nearly every word.
And with good reason. As Hilton herself would say, on first listen her songs are, perhaps surprisingly, hot. Produced in part by Scott Storch (Beyonce, Chris Brown, 50 Cent), the album's vibe is dance-pop with rock and reggae influences throughout. Hilton says she had a hand in writing "all the songs," and the influence of childhood idols Madonna, Janet Jackson and Paula Abdul is unmistakable.
'Turn It Up,' a contender for the first single, is poised to sweep clubs across the country, and Paris' label reps confirm it is already being remixed by world-class DJs Peter Rauhofer, DJ Dan and Paul Oakenfold. Then there's her it's-so-obvious-how-could-she-not cover of Rod Stewart's 'Da Ya Think I'm Sexy.' Hilton says she decided to record the track because she's been "singing it since [she] was a little girl" and she giggled as her faithful remake of the disco staple inspired staffers to get on their feet and dance, unashamedly shaking the bus.
'Screwed' (a rough version of which leaked on the Internet over a year ago) has been re-recorded and emerges as one of the album's stand-outs (in it, the coquettish Ms. Hilton declares, "My heart's wide open"). 'Fighting Over Me' features Paris trading lines with rappers Fat Joe and Jadakiss, who give the song a gritty urban feel as she observes, "Every time I step out the house, the boys are fighting over me." The risqué, breathy 'Turn You On,' another club jam, has Hilton advising an over-zealous dance partner to "Take a cold shower when you get home" and chanting "I'm sexy and you know it/Clap your hands."
'Stars Go Blind' takes an unexpected reggae turn, utilizing a dancehall beat a la No Doubt, while 'Heartbeat,' the album's lone ballad, shows Hilton's vulnerable side. "I can feel the other half of my heartbeat/So sweet/Lying here with you," she sings with a vocal charm reminiscent of Gwen Stefani.
The track likely to receive the most attention and speculation is the guitar-driven 'Jealousy,' which is rumored to be inspired by her feud with 'Simple Life' co-star Nicole Richie. Paris starts the song mournfully with the lines, "I thought you were my best friend/I thought we'd be together 'til the end." But the lyrics grow more biting as the song continues: "You sold your soul for your fame/But you'll never walk a day in my shoes." When asked who the song is about, she coyly replies, "A mean girl."
As the album wound to a close, Paris sensed the mood on the bus and said, "I'll put the songs on for people and not tell them who it is. Then they ask, 'Who is this? It's hot!' And I tell them it's me, and they can't believe it."

***I have a feeling her music is going to be a hit. Think about it - if a song like MY HUMPS goes to #1 on the charts, Paris shouldn't be worried. *****
