Musically, GaGa wasn't doing anything different or new. The Fame, as a whole, is an average album. To be honest, regardless of her undeniable talents, it was IMAGE that made people want to check out GaGa, and when they did check her out, they noticed that there was talent there. I remember all of the "who is this weird chick with these weird costumes on?" comments. Without the whole crazy image, I don't think she would have blown up that quickly, and that's why so many artists are wearing these crazy, flashy clothes. It seems that people notice basic pop stars more when they have weird costumes on, and artists strive for instant success.

How the hell did Gaga bring about Adele? Adele was considered a Winehouse knock-off with a better voice when she came out (as was Duffy) who has shined and grown without being compared to Gaga.

Gaga is radical since she desire/drive/need for fame/whatever is more prevalent. But she's not bringing something new musically. Just a different image of it.

No shade intended, but how can Katy come close to the powers that are Adele and Gaga when Katy's two combined albums don't total 21 or The Fame/Monster. But I mean Katy is successful, obviously. She tied MJ's record and her singles do well in numbers and not just chart positions. Katy is no pioneer, especially since she simply just remastered Animal by Kesha (see Tik Toc - California Girls). I know people might say 'funny coming from the Gaga fan,' but Gaga's influence is observable in comparison to her peers.
